NJILOA Eligibility Requirements and Expectations
Cadet instruction is intended to train adults (male or female) interested in officiating the sport of boys’ lacrosse in the State of New Jersey.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and out of high school.
- Applicants will be asked to provide a doctor’s verification of physical fitness and pass a minimum athletic test of agility & endurance to show they can handle the physical requirements of officiating boys’ lacrosse.
- Applicants will also be required to submit and pass a basic criminal background check meeting requirements of the NJSIAA.
- The Cadet training program is a two-year (US Lacrosse Level 1 & 2) curriculum taught by NJILOA instructors. Cadets must pass an annual written exam and an eventual on-field evaluation.
- Cadets must be available during the spring season to officiate a minimum of 5 interscholastic games.

IMPORTANT:
Upon successful completion of the instruction, background check, and exam, cadet officials are obligated to provide availability to the NJILOA for interscholastic boys’ lacrosse games. While you will be eligible become a member of US Lacrosse and referee youth lacrosse games, high school assignments from the NJILOA assignor take precedence.
In order for a new NJILOA member to remain in good standing each year they must:
- Attend one (1) mandatory NFHS Rules Interpretation Meeting
- Attend a minimum of TWO (2) Regular Season Meetings
- Attend ONE (1) Training Clinic (provided during the pre-season of their class)
- Pass an annual written exam
- Pay annual dues Provide availability to the NJILOA assignor
- Officiate a minimum of five games assigned by the NJILOA.
