- Free Clear or Not to Free Clear -that is the Question – April 12, 2022
Team A advances the ball into their box and gets it behind the goal when the trail official blows his whistle and calls Team A for being offside. Ball is immediately dropped to the ground. Team B coach wants a free clear to the middle of the field for the re-start. I say "No" and the ball is re-started by Team B at the spot when the whistle was blown. What say you ?
- Grant the free clear? – April 7, 2022
Goalie has possession in the crease, and when he throws a pass, he is contacted by the stick of the defense. But his pass, (as always) is just a short 10 yard pass to a defenseman, who catches the ball and runs about 20 yards, and then loses the ball. If this happens a few times, can you blow the whistle and give them a free clear, even though the goalie does complete a 10 yard “outlet” pass ?
- Simultaneous Interference? – April 7, 2022
Flag down, slow whistle.
Off the ball, a cutter and a defender get involved with each other and start interfering with each other, by blocking and holding each other’s stick. Both appear to be equally at fault. Can you call them both for interference and take both off the field for a 30 second simultaneous foul, or would you have to charge both with a personal foul in order to take them both off the field? Does this change if the same thing happens when there is not a flag down situation?
- Rules question – April 5, 2022
Player A cross checks. Flag down. Team B scores. Player A receives a conduct foul (not unsportsmanlike). The official assessed him a 30 second penalty for the conduct in addition to the 1 minute cross check. I think no penalty time for the conduct but Team B gets the ball due to the technical foul. Player A should only serve a minute in the box for the cross check.
- Stick Exchange – April 5, 2022
(PREFACE: I submitted this question during Meeting #2, so I am re-submitting it here so I don't forget).
During a stick exchange, does the player have to come completely off the field? (I thought I saw or heard something about this somewhere, but do not see any reference to this in the rulebook).
- Face Offs – April 1, 2022
You're doing the faceoff. You verbally tell both players what you expect etc. Player A goes down but his stick is not straight up but at a very slight angle. Before you say "set" what do you do :
-stand them up and give the ball to the other team ?
-tell Player A to straighten it up?
-lean down and physically adjust Player A's stick ( like the old days)?
-stand them up and tell/warn Player A what you expect of his stick and reface ? - Stick check – March 30, 2022
If an official thinks that a stick may be illegal, maybe after a goal, do we have the right to check it at that time?
- Too many men on Man Down – March 24, 2022
I was just hoping for clarification on a rule. My team was Man UP, the other team was Man Down but still had 7 defensive players on the field. We scored on the play. Does the goal wipe out the penalty for too many men?
- Lead official mechanics – March 17, 2022
I’ve been told to get in as close as possible to the crease but not to let players get behind you. Is this a feel kind of thing or is there a technique you can recommend.
- Faceoff Mechanics – March 16, 2022
For upcoming 2022 season, please confirm basic 2-man Faceoff mechanic for administering official. Place ball on x, both players standing. Bring them together, down, set, SNG position, back away and blow whistle.
