Over and back violation April 24, 2021 World Games 2014 0 Forum Questions Under 30 seconds in the fourth quarter team A is up by one goal. After satisfying their advancement count, team A calls timeout. The ball is moved laterally outside the box. Upon the restart, team A will be under a 10-second get it in count. Question is this: since they will be under a 10-second count, can they now throw the ball back into their defensive zone without garnering an over and back call? Or, since it's not an advancement count but a stalling count, does the over and back roll still apply here Question File Add new DuBan's Answer: Visual Text Kratz's Answer: Visual Text McCarrick's Answer: Visual Text This question is extremely complex so we will need to reference multiple rules. Rule 3 Sec. 3 states that the stalling rules shall apply in the final two minutes of play when one team is a head by four goals or less. We then must reference the stalling Rule 6 Sec. 10 Art 3. based on these two rules the team A has ten seconds to carry the ball into the offensive area based on score and the time in the game. Finally we must look at Rule 4 Sec. 14 Art 3. which states " Once the ball has been successfully advanced into the goal area, ...." After looking at all of these rules it only seems logical that the teams as already successfully advanced the ball into the goal area. If this was a shot outside of the final two minutes of play how would we officiate it? Would the team be allowed to carry the ball back over the midfield line? Since we do not have a change of possession it seems only logical that if Team A brings the ball over the midfield line they would have violated Rule 4 Sec. 13 Art 3. and therefore we would have an over and back and a change of possession. Riti's Answer: Visual Text Tyma's Answer: Visual Text I'm thinking the same as the questioner. The team is under a mandatory stall warning (leading by 4 or less with less than 2 minutes to play). This is not the same as advancing the ball into the goal area on initially gaining possession in the offensive half, nor after an intervening possession by the defense. My sense on this is that over and back would apply. Answer File Question Answered Yes No
