Too many men on Man Down March 24, 2022 World Games 2014 0 Forum Questions I was just hoping for clarification on a rule. My team was Man UP, the other team was Man Down but still had 7 defensive players on the field. We scored on the play. Does the goal wipe out the penalty for too many men? One other thing that I was thinking is when did the man-down team have their 7th defender on the field? If the officials did not properly set the field before restarting play after the penalty was adjudicated, then the officials need to correct this as soon as possible before something bad happens (like the short handed team scoring when we let them have too many players on the restart). I'm reading into this question a little but I think its important that our officials know the importance of setting the field after a penalty is assessed before restarting play, and also correcting the error as soon as possible if we didn't properly set the field. I've had a few times where we needed to stop play and remove a player because we allowed the restart to occur with too many players on the field for the offending team. The coach wanted another penalty but I explained to him that it was our fault. That usually satisfies him. Tyma's Answer: Visual Text When the questioner says that the team that was man down had 7 defensive players on the field, I take this to mean that there were 7 members of the man-down team in their defensive half. In such a case, the man-down team is offside, which is a releasable penalty if is there are no time-serving fouls by the scoring team before the next whistle to restart play. Since a goal scored releases all releasable penalties being served by the opposition, no time would be served for the offside foul. The appropriate mechanic is to throw a flag, report both "goal is good" and the offside violation to the table, and wave the flag to indicate that the offside penalty will not be served.
