Should the referee call illegal procedure and award the ball to the attacking team outside the box, or should he call out of bounds and award the ball at the spot where the blue player played the ball? Thus, the ball should be restarted out of the box, per 7.3 (p.81ff). If the ball was out of bounds when the player, who was also out of bounds, attempted to play it, the attempt is irrelevant because the ball is dead due to being out of bounds. In that case, start it where the ball went out of bounds, per 4.6 (p. 38ff). Note that if the ball went out of bounds as a result of a shot, the player out of bounds does not figure into the decision to award possession (4.6.3.c ,loc. cit.).
