Grant the free clear? April 7, 2022 World Games 2014 0 Forum Questions Goalie has possession in the crease, and when he throws a pass, he is contacted by the stick of the defense. But his pass, (as always) is just a short 10 yard pass to a defenseman, who catches the ball and runs about 20 yards, and then loses the ball. If this happens a few times, can you blow the whistle and give them a free clear, even though the goalie does complete a 10 yard “outlet” pass ? If the pass is completed then the "play-on" has ended as described in situation 7.11.12. Riti's Answer: Visual Text I agree with Fred. However, at a lower level game (i.e. JV or Freshman) where I can see that the skill level of one or both teams is not good, then I might avoid using the play-on and just automatically call goalie interference and give a free clear. If the players are so bad that they turn the ball over more often than not, then I might stop using play-on. This can also be used for any play-on (e.g. loose ball infractions) where the teams' skill level is suspect. If they get possession and immediate lose the ball, then the play-on is actually disadvantaging them. 6.2.1 SITUATION I: While the goalkeeper is in the crease and is in possession of the ball, A1 interferes with goalkeeper. RULING: Play on if there is no flag down on Team A. If goalkeeper fails to run the ball out of the crease or successfully completes an outlet pass and the ball is awarded to Team B to be put in play in its offensive side of the field at the Center.
